Reports in The Sun and on the BBC today claim that the average family is now spending almost £20 a week more on food than they were a year ago. That’s an extra £1,000 a year!!!

No matter what the weather outside it will be glorious in Poundland!  Staff will be dressed in their bright and colourful summer clothes and any donations you can make to this much deserved charity will be welcome.

With more talks of travel companies going out of business and airport staff going on strike, the idea of taking a holiday in the UK becomes more appealing!  The ‘Staycation’ is this year’s buzz word when it comes to holidaying at home and if you’re enjoying the delights of the British Isles this summer, why not head to Poundland and pick up all your travel and camping essentials! It’s also V Festival next weekend, so all these camping and travel things will be great for that too!

Well it was bitter sweet last night for England fans, the England football team were back on form with a 2-1 win over Hungary at Wembley, yeh!  but then came the news that David Beckham’s international career is over because “he is probably, little bit old” according to Fabio Capello. Welcome to a brand new week at Poundland HQ.  Hope you all had a fantastic weekend and of course spoilt your Mum’s yesterday.  All our Mum’s deserve a treat once in a while don’t they!   Lets start the week off with some exciting store opening news for you – we have a brand new store opening in the Broadway Centre, Ealing on Thursday 18th March.  To celebrate there will be a family fun day on Saturday 20th March. Make sure you come down and join in the fun!

We will have a DJ there from 9am – 3pm and Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly (Becki McDonald) will be there to officially open the store at 10.00am on Saturday 20th March.  She will be there until 1.00pm signing autographs, having pictures taken and giving away 50 x £1 Poundland vouchers.  We also have £50 of Poundland vouchers to be won in checkout challenge from 9.30am.  You have to be at the till for the chance to win!

We all love a good Indian or Chinese takeaway once in a while and it has now become a regular occurance in my house on a Friday night!  We all know though that it is not the be best for diets and definitely not for those on a low fat diet!!   To help reduce the cost of your takeaways, why not cook at home – you will be able to save money and cook in a much healthier way!   We have a great range of Weight Watchers products in stores now including sweet and sour sauce, tikka masala sauce and naan bread that are the perfect low-fat alternative to those greasy late night takeaways.
